How to apply.
We accept referrals from anywhere within New South Wales. Simply contact us on 02 9622 9791 and ask to be considered for a referral if there are any vacancies.
Arrangements can be made for an initial interview providing all criteria have been met (see below). There will also be a second interview with other staff, once it has been established that Alice's Cottages is able to meet the family's needs. This will be influenced by the availability of a suitable house.
Who may be accepted.
Women who have a history of psychiatric illness and/or psychological distress with dependent children and who are homeless or about to become homeless. Because the service is supported accommodation some or all of the following requirements need to be met:
- women who are willing to reside in an Alice's Cottages house for a minimum of three months, sign a lease and pay the agreed rent each fortnight.
- women who will actively participate in a programme arranged between them and their team.
- women who are dealing with a past alcohol or drug problem in a constructive way and whose mental health problem is their primary need for
support, and have been free from their dependency for over six months.
- women who wish to develop skills aimed towards living independently including budgeting, parenting, advocacy, assertiveness.
Who we are unable to accept.
We are not able to assist or accept referrals from:
- women who have not been free of alcohol and/or drug dependence for more than six months.
- women who are in need of 24 hour support or supervision.
- women who have been described as having a developmental disability.
